I'm back! It's amazing right? Monday, we studied ordering fractions and then had library. After recess, we did note-taking for our non fiction piece and got ready to put the research into paragraphs. We continued with our read-a-loud, Peter Nimble and we're almost done with it. It is a great book and I know everyone loves it! Finally, it's Tuesday and we learned how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators. We continued with our non fiction research in the afternoon.

As Wednesday rolled around we learned all about probability  in math and why we would need to know about it for our future. Later in the afternoon, we did science and did the second to last lesson in our motion unit. We tested how a sail would help our vehicles move faster or cause friction and slow them down. As Thursday came, we got ready for the unit 7 math assessment that we had today. We did a lot of review and practice. At the end of the day, we had computer lab and worked on our typing skills and we also began typing our rough draft non fiction essays. Finally, today we did our math assessment which took a long time, too long! After lunch, we went to Mrs. Page-Redmans room and looked at the second graders' arctic projects. They did so great on their reports! At the end of the day we had our "Team Time" and got started making our little wigwams. Next week we will apply the birch bark. Very fun!  That's pretty much the highlights of our week.  Don't forget "Beach Day" on Monday and our field trip to Jillson's Farm on Tuesday.

We had the best week! On Monday we learned about "Equivalent Fractions" such as four-eighths and three-sixths. Everyone loves working with fractions. Right when spring was coming, we had a snow day and had the day off from school,''WHY GOD? WHY?'' We all want spring to be here. We are ready for some warm sunny weather. On

Wednesday we practiced questioning the author or questioning the story of our books that we are reading. This helps us to better understand and have discussions with each other while analyzing what we have read. As Thursday came, we were working on boxes and bullets note taking. We continued with note taking for our research projects on Maine and some of us even began the writing piece. On Friday, Annie brought cupcakes for everyone. She is starting a cupcake business and brought in a bunch of tie-die cupcakes for us to taste.... hmm...hmm!

We started our week with learning fractions. We also read our  exciting book Peter Nimble and are almost finished with it. We also did a lot of writing in our reading journals this week. On Tuesday, we had a substitute in to teach us. It was strange because Mrs. Rollins has never missed a school day this year.  We did alot of writing on our "Motion" unit reflecting on our experiments and what purpose different car parts have in motion. Wednesday we continued with "Fractions" adding and subtracting. We all think fractions are so awesome! Then, we had P.E. We have been working on throwing and catching. We also had fourth grand hour which is always fun!

Thursday came and the week was already over. We watched a video about "Pi" and what it means. Mrs. Rollins then showed us how to use pi when finding the circumference of a circle. We all made our own circles and then problem solved to find pi. It was hard at first but then we all were able to figure it out. We had so much fun!!! We started our collage-portraits in art and then went to computer lab and finished our day with a dance party for Bridget's birthday.

To start the week, Mrs. Rollins told us that we were going to compete in International Math Day. So, we prepared  for the competition which was for two days, which was petty fun. We got to design a character that looked just like us to represent ourselves on the computers. On Tuesday and Wednesday we competed against students in other countries on mathematics and speed. We all had so much fun! In library Mrs. Clark talked to our class about an upcoming project that we are going to do in art with Mrs. Weir too. The part that we are doing in art is a self portrait that will then go with a book report from library.  At the end of the day our class celebrated Charlotte's birthday with a phenominal dance party!!

On Tuesday we went out into the woods with Mrs. Rollins and collected sticks for our fun projet were we will be building wigwams like the Abenaki. We will be using sticks, burlap for skins and birch bark from the trees. To end the day we had yet another dance party for Nathaniel's 10th birthday! Wednesday we practiced comparing and contrasting with a venn diagram and then Mrs. Rollins taught us how to take the venn diagram and turn it into a three paragraph essay. Thursday was a fun one, we had a free art class to do what we wanted, everybody had so much fun. In math we worked on Fractions art using our templates and then figuring out the fractions of a whole.  Next, we had a NECAP practice writing.  We compared and contrasted clothes from 1899 and clothes of today again practicing how to write paragraphs for comparing things. Something special that we did was we went to a second grade classroom and read our pursuasive writings to the second graders and they shared their writings with us.

 On Friday,  we worked some more with fraction blocks and had a very fun time! We also measured the distances that our Knex cars went down the hallway using "kinetic Energy." To end the week we started to build our Abenaki wigwam village. They will be almost as tall as us. WOW!

This week was the best! We started Monday off with math and continued to work on long division with two and three digit divisors. We had library and continued to look at non-fiction text features. Mrs. Rollins also had us practice finding the "Author's Purpose." On Tuesday we did more non-fiction work.We learned about two kinds of non-fiction one is narrative non-fiction and the other was expository non-fiction. Mrs. Rollins had us read and share different books and explain which genre it was and why.

      OK, now it's Wednesday. We are half way through the week already! We had gym and it was so awesome!  Thursday was the best! We worked on our "motion" unit instead of math in the morning. We worked on using rubber bands with stored energy to make our vehicles move. We learned that when you have movement from energy it is called "Kinetic Energy." It was so fun to see our cars shoot across the floor. We also went to Art on Thursday and worked on vanishing points. This is where you draw a 3d shape. 
     When Friday rolled around, every one was so excited for the weekend. We started Friday off with math and more long division. after lunch, we worked on our Abinaki Indian posters and then after that we did the best part of the week... TEAM TIME!!!!! This team time was a little different. Mrs. Rollins talked about what we had to do to get ready for our building of the Abinaki village. We researched long houses and wigwams on the internet and learned that we need to collect forest wood and birch bark skin. This is going to be so cool! Thanks for reading my blog.
