Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Fourth grade! I am so excited to meet all of you. I know that we are going to have a great year together and I can't wait to get started.

Important Information: The best way to know what is going on in our classroom is by subscribing to our classroom blog. This will give you a window into our classroom. Each week in September I will post a Friday blog to tell you what we did during our week in class. I will also include reminders of up coming events. Starting in October the students will be blogging. Each week a student will be chosen to take notes through the week and then create a blog telling about our school days during that week. I will also be staying connected about important items through home emailing. Please remember to also ask your child what he or she is studying, and check in with your child each night regarding homework that needs to be completed.

Homework: Weekly homework will consist of nightly reading Monday through Thursday (minimum of 10-20 minutes recommended), Everyday Math Homelinks, and a third piece of homework which could be a practice paragraph writing, spelling, or project assignment related to a theme we are studying. Please help your child stay organized at home with their homework so they can begin to prepare for middle school responsibilities.

Snack: All students may bring a nutritious snack and a bottle of water to school everyday. Our snack time will take place around 9:30 every morning so please choose healthy low sugar snacks that will help your child stay focused, alert, and on task. Due to our commitment to wellness at YES, we will not be allowing birthday treats. Thank you for understanding and for you support with healthier choices.

Birthdays: Students are encouraged to bring in a special item to share with the class, special pictures, if they play an instrument, they may want to give us a short concert. Students may be creative in this area. I do ask that you and your child check in with me ahead of time as to what your child's idea might be.

Ask Questions: If you have any concern or questions, please feel free to call or email me (gina_rollins@yarmouthschools.org) at any time. I will return your calls and emails as soon as I have a break from teaching. I welcome all questions, concerns, ideas, or feedback that affect your child's learning or our classroom.

Sincerely,

Gina Rollins
